Speaking of getting better fuel mileage!
One example is guy we know with an chemical engineering job with a major oil company, he has a big 3/4 ton gasser pulling a small 5er and tried an experiment to improve mileage using the latest technology.
He first changed to a K&N low restriction air filter, then to a synthetic oil, low rolling resistant tires, new high tech spark plugs, some aerodynamic improvements including fairings and radiator opening shutters to improve aerodynamics, also a new nose fairing on the nose of the 5er...and a special overdrive transmission, and a few more tricks such as a fuel cooler system!
We went out to Death Valley to try all of these enhancements out using computerized scientific measuring devices. After filling his gas tank and sealing it shut...he drove a measured route in the "Lowest Point in the USA" which was 282 feet below sea level...Bad Water Death Valley.
The air/oxygen level is very dense here....in addition is was also a very cold day...around 40 degrees so the air was even denser!
We started on level ground..and drove for slightly more than 4 miles before the fuel tank overflowed!
Ta-Daaaaaaaa! :C Now what?!
