Mistaken ideas about how a diesel engine works

I've seen a lot of grumbling as of late about the power output of new diesel engines. These same people complain and ask why the manufactures have to run the power up so much and why don't they work...

Oh, from the way you were comparing the mpg's of your 93 6.5L to your 06 6.6L made it sound like you were comparing new and old engines that had two totally different fuel systems and turbochargers. And that the only reason the 06 gets better mileage was just gearing instead of its ability to get more energy out of fuel. Sorry, my bad.
