The dealers available to you really do make a difference. Although I have found a dealer to service my Ram, the others in my area appear to lack skill or even interest for me to trust them. On the flip side, I have three high volume Ford dealers in my area that have large commercial sales and service departments to back them up each with quick parts delivery. These dealers were not just competing against the other brands but also between themselves for customers. It showed in their responsiveness, quality and pricing when I needed service.
This was and still is a big concern in my choice to buy a Ram over another Ford. As others have have posted, I have also heard of long delays getting repair and warranty parts (which I have not needed yet). I do not have regrets buying my Ram - However, if it gets sidelined due to lack of parts or quality of service, I will be making enough noise that FCA will hear it regardless of where they are based.
To address out of state purchases. The Ram dealers in my area were not interested in ordering my chassis cab and some were not even up on their own line of what was carried and when it was available. That's not to say every dealer in my state was deficient, but the four closest to me were. I could have bought from dealer farther away in my state, but I would still not be going back to that one for service - It would have put me in the same circumstances as buying it in another state or buying it on the opposite coast.
