  • I stumbled upon this as well a few months back. Made for a good hour of entertainment and got my mind a spinnen. I now have mason jar tea lights that hang proudly form my awning on those warm summer night while dry camping.

    Mason Jar Tea Lights
  • The tea lights look cool !
How did you attach the hanger/bails to the ring on the jars ?
    Thanks,Mike

Those in the link were the example I made mine from. Below is my actual lights. I got the wire from home depot. Twisted a ring around under the jar threads then put the loop/hanger through that. Then put the ring on with out the seal so it's open. The ring adds trim and looks cool. I've seen them painted too but the natural candle light is really pretty. I hang 7 across a 19 foot awning using awning hangers. You need to make them hang at least a foot so you don't heat up your awning valance. At 12 inches you vallance will be about 6 inches above the jars but check yours as it may be different. If you use votive candles check with your hand just below the valance. Those get a bit hotter but put off twice the light. I'm going to make another set with bigger jars. Next size up to use votive candles. Also my jars tend to blow out if there is any wind gusts. The bigger jars will prevent this. I've had no issues, you can hold your hand one inch above the jar and there is just about no heat so i'm not worried the least. Been using them for about a year now. I also have bigger mason jars with votive candles to match on the pick-nick table and around camp. Also with teal lights, they go out in 4 hours on their own. When they start to go out it's time I quit drinken by the fire and turn in. ;)

  • I've seen those mason jar lights on someone's awning too and they added a lot of ambiance. Saw this idea (solar tiki torches) in the Lowe's Creative magazine lately...and I'm sure that lots of us have those old bamboo tiki torches and this would be a cool way to get back into using them without needing the torch oil anymore.
