mold/mildew on carpet

We camped for the last time in our Casita back in June. We have had record rainfall here in east central Alabama during July and August; in the meantime I was having surgery and recovering. So, I went out to check on the camper the other day and I had some mold or mildew growing on the carpet. Can someone recommend something to get rid of it? I'll go over all the hard surfaces with a bleach containing cleaner, but need something for the carpet. It's not that widespread, but I'll wipe everything down just the same. Heading to Destin in three weeks.
  • You have a leak to fix first. As for the mold. Tear the carpet out and dispose of it.
  • Wet vac, baking soda, vac again, fan etc.....on the Casita remove the screw cover caps, apply a dab of silicone, snap cap back....Unless you know another spot that caused the leak..
  • Flood restoration people use a product called microban. You can order it here

I would vacuum it well then apply then have it steam cleaned by a professional carpet cleaner (not the whole house for $79 guys), then reapply.
  • Mold Rid makes a mold stain remover/blocker that is ok for fabric and gentle on hands. I get ours at Lowe's here in WA but I can't find it in Oregon or CA. It's probably available online. It's just a spray bottle. I've used it on glass, carpet, curtains, and the ceiling.
  • Sorry I didn't explain things very well; it is not caused by a leak. The mold/mildew is on the carpet on the walls and is from high humidity inside the trailer from being closed up during a very wet summer. I should have used some sort of de-humidifier.
