Are you quite sure of that? I did a little quick research and according to Wikipedia a 1970 Superbird with the 426 Hemi ran a 1/4 in 14.3 at 104 mph. Car and Driver tested a 2012 V6 Toyota Camry that ran the 1/4 in 14.3 at 101. The new Mustangs are running high 12s, low 13s.

The old muscle cars were a lot of things, but not faster than today's cars.
