- BenKExplorerAre you guys talking stock or 'built' engines?
Helped an older neighbor stuff in a big cam, big Holly and headers into his
mid 60's SS396. Neck and neck with another buddies Road Runner 440. They ran
out of road before either beat the other
King of my city back then was a guy who I helped stuff a 427 into his Falcon
Big cam, big Holly, headers and some tweaks to stiffen the body along with
axle snubbers...he didn't like traction bars
Peter White's 396 Goat was okay. Never let anyone touch his, so don't know what
he had in it
Canary Yellow with black interior was the hot color combo back then. Only the
Falcon was black

You must have lived on the slow side of town or maybe it was the brand you were smoking back then. I guess you never ran against the chrysler 440 's or the Ford 428 cobra jets. The 454 was then and still is a dog of a motor. - buckyExplorer IILet's remember that only The King's super birds ever hit those top end numbers, and his cars were far from what we could buy at the time.
No way in hell I would drive a car from that era at those speeds on the tires of the day. And I was pretty stupid at the time. - jfkmkExplorer

No doubt the hellcat would smoke a Superbird. But my point was after 45 years the top speed is only bested by 2 mph. The bird was a one of a kind never to be duplicated. I wonder what the next 45 years will bring?
Which wheel would you rather be behind at 200 plus MPH?
I know which one I would prefer to be behind..
FYI... I saw a new 2015 Charger Live and In person today while getting our Town and Country serviced. They just brought the first one off the truck..
its a real beauty... 4 doors and all... got over them two doors after I turned 23... and had Kids.
Thanks!

How about which car would I rather own? Hands down a Superbird. Look, I'm not trying to take away anything from the hellcat charger or it's much more beautiful Challenger. But, as amazing as they are, the Superbird achieved the same top speed 45 years ago with comparatively primitive engineering. Now THATS amazing!
You got me on that one!
Since we are just dreaming :). Let's get one of each.... Why choose?
Like I could afford either one!?? Ah, but we can always dream! - jerem0621Explorer II

The top speed of the Superbird was an anomaly. I don't think it's a fair comparison. Most of the "performance cars" of the day had top speeds in the range of 125-150. With the technology (or lack thereof) of the Superbird, 200 MPH would be a truly scary experience.
The acceleration of the Hellcat is the startling feature of the car. You're getting true supercar acceleration for "only" $65k. Other cars in that same 0-60 range cost hundreds of thousands, or even millions. The car can reach 130 MPH in TEN SECONDS!
200 MPH in a Hellcat would be a relative walk in the park. - jfkmkExplorerNo doubt the hellcat would smoke a Superbird. But my point was after 45 years the top speed is only bested by 2 mph. The bird was a one of a kind never to be duplicated. I wonder what the next 45 years will bring?
