PU MagOK looking at that map the top tier of states are probably at or near the top of the lowest population states. Plus lots of people drive pickups in those states, so I suspect the stats are skewed because of that. Probably not a large number of Prius's sold in the Dakotas for example. Its a good guess that pu are very popular in NM and OK too. If more than half the vehicles in the state are pickups then it would be no surprise to see them making up the majority of accident participants.

So true, another often quoted but fake statistic is that women are better/safer drivers than men. However when you rework that to calculate accidents/per mile driven, it turns out men are much safer. In our society women generally pass the driving duties to the men in the group and drive a lot fewer miles total.

Unless they incorporate the percent breakdown of types of vehicles in each state it is not a study. It is just someone using up the government grant money we all pay.

Statistics can be used to get most any desired result. And this one is meaningless without factoring in the percentage of each on the road.

The author first acknowledges that the numbers aren't an accurate representation and then immediately makes a conclusion using that representation. Poor writing again.

Thank you, I had copied the same paragraph and was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it. They must not have gotten any trucks to drive this week and felt they needed to post something to keep themselves currant. These guys are getting some real big heads.

Kind of like saying more cab drivers in NYC have accidents then in Wichita KS.

Only one person on my block owns a car, everyone else drives a PU or SUV.

The insurance company doesn't need an article to raise rates. The stats themselves are what they use. The article is just someone trying to turn nothing into a story.

Having grown up in ND and having lived in Mt and now Idaho, pickups are to these areas like SUV's are to the rest of the country. So with the sheer numbers of them on the road, rough Winter conditions, long driving distances, no big news there are a lot wrecks involving pickups. I would not be surprised if in North Dakota there are more registered pickups than there are licensed drivers in the State.

Again, just because it has more pickup and SUV crash caused deaths doesn't mean it is any different than anywhere else safety wise.
