I just don't see the attraction of the ECO-Boost.
This is a "forest for the trees" moment. EPA now requires light duty pickups (all of them) to be part of the manufacturers' corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) calculation. Ford, with development of the Ecoboost engine and 6 speed transmission, is making a very serious and valid effort to keep the F-150 (their best selling vehicle I believe) in the product mix, and as a legitimate pickup truck, capable as a tow vehicle and hauler. Ford also knows that a good many of these trucks are the new "family sedan". It may be about marketing, but it's more about survival in an increasingly difficult regulatory environment.
Do some research, the "Eco Boost" has been around for years, just not in the states! Ford was NOT the first one to have a direct injected turbo charged gas engine, not by a long shot. Now when Ford and GM bring out their nine and ten speed transmissions they are working on together, then you will see some real mileage out of the EB.
