Did you watch the same video I did?
To me, the video was an advertisement for Ford, demonstrating how relaxed and casual the drivetrain in the Ford performed, especially in comparison to the 'tried and true' (read: seriously outdated and outclassed) 5.3 in the chebby.
What I thought the video showed was that the GM was giving 100% of what it had, and couldn't give any more. The Ford on the other hand, upshifted and could still accelerate the load.
I'm not sure. The video I watched showed the Tundra and Ram easily handling the hill while hitting around 3500 RPMs while the guy stated that both vehicles were almost maxed out. Neither vehicle was anywhere near being maxed out, they were both right in the meat of their power bands with plenty more power to go.
It did show that the GM was unable to maintain speed without dropping to 2nd gear and going way high in the RPM's. If anything, the test showed that Ford, Toyota and Ram half tons were up to the task. Ford just did it at lower RPM's than Toyota and Ram. I'd love to see the MPG's for that test. I'm sure Ford, Ram and Toyota all had comparable mileage towing up that hill... no matter where in the RPM range it was.
