No, in the US the omnipotent EPA is the keeper of the mileage figures and fuel cost estimates shown on the "Monroney" stickers of new vehicles for sale.


I stand corrected but aren't they all connected. Anyhow, it is they who come up with the published numbers, not the manufcturer.
