If I were buying a daily driver that I wanted to use for towing, it's towing ability would be my first priority and empty fuel economy would be second. 0-60 would be somewhere else down the list, very far down. I would need a truck that can tow. I would not need a truck that can do 0-60 in six seconds. As long as it could do a good job towing, I would much rather have a truck that could do 0-60 in eight seconds and got 25 MPG empty than one that could do 0-60 in six seconds and only got 20 MPG empty.
I agree, but I don't know of any 25 mpg tow vehicles. Meanwhile, my Ecoboost Max Tow does a good job of towing, gets pretty good economy, and just happens to provide good acceleration when desired.
Based on other vehicles using 3.0L turbo diesels with the same power output, I think the Ram 1500 diesel should do about 5 MPG better than the F150 EB, maybe more because diesels have had a better record of meeting or even beating their EPA ratings than gas vehicles. So for me, it might mean do I need the F150's extra HP and capacity. Maybe I would.
