I noticed you mentioned NO GENERATOR... My battery bank originally was 340Ahs and we managed that just fine with a 2KW Honda quiet generator... I lost one of the batteries rather quick before learning about WFCO converter/charger short comings. Using the PD9260C Converter/charger now since 2009...
My 255Ah battery bank seems to run all the things we want to ro being OFF-ROAD most of the time.. This does not include the Air Conditioner or high wattage Microwave but that not the end of the world for us. I did pickup a small 500WATT White faced Microwave (WALMART) with manual controls that does all we need. Fixing up Baked potatoes for five minutes in the microwave is boss haha...
Havent gone to solar yet but the roof will only support maybe three panels so all I can expect is to just keep the batteries re-charged before using them... The small generator just doing this is must have item. Got to store the solar into the batteries to use at night. Run the small generator the next morning for three hours with just the converter/charged plugged in is all I need. We do this during breakfast and being allowed to run the generator. You being from Virginia you ave probably noticed there isn't many places you can go here and run a generator anytime you want to. All kinds of restrictions in place everywhere. No where is it allowed after 8PM at public camp places.
I could even drop my 2KW Generator back to the 1KW size and get away with ti. Think my PD9260C Converter/charger draws 900Watts... That might be a problem... haha...
I would never want to run a 5KW or larger Onan generator where we camp at...
With my 2KW generator sitting just inside my truck bed I can close the tailgate and just crack open the rear part of my truck bed cover panels and you cannot hear the generator running at all... I did that one time camping at ELKMONT camp in the Smokys Natl Park TN and the Ranger came around greeting people. It was early afternoon like 2PM and I wanted a cup of coffee real so I fired my generator up to make coffee. Only takes five to six minutes of generator run time to do. As it turned out the ranger walked up just as I was making coffee so I closed the tail gate and propped up the other end bed panel with a stick. We talked awhile and I had asked him about generator run times - He said 8AM-10AM and then again 5PM to 8PM. I said oops I running my generator right now. he was leaning against the front of my truck when we talking. He never heard a noise haha... I walked over and shut it down and poured both of us a cup of coffee... Told him I was dying for a cup of coffee haha... He visited for about 15 minutes and went on his way (true Story) haha...
I just think with cloudy days and the fact I run alot of 12VDC items when camping I just couldn't depend solely on solar panels to keep my batteries up to their 90% charge state without my small 2KW Honda quiet Generator...
Just something to consider...
