I understand and have thoroughly thought through (say that 10x fast) all the points made. There will be inevitable trade offs, quirks, mods made, etc. We do our homework!
However, I'd like to start with a solid unit to customize, not fix manufacturer's flaws/bad quality control and outright previous owner abuse. We are not against buying used, but our experiences in the past have not been favorable! We drove 10 hours, no wasted 10 hours, to check out that 1-year, "barely used" unit, with solar already, that sounded hunky-dory only to find a million obvious things wrong with it that the seller didn't disclose. Barring the rare incredible used finds, my confidence is all but gone in that department. Not worth the extra headache, my 2 cents.
Anyway, didn't really want this post to digress this much in to stuff that has probably been beat to death before, just wanted some input on folks' happiness/thoughts on specific models mentioned, especially the newish Northstar 12STC.:D
