We tow a 33 footer all over and this summer we went almost every weekend. We also came from a pop up. The biggest issue is finding camping spots at state parks. We still find them just need to be a little more diligent. We are thinking if getting a fiver this winter and I don't want to go much longer.
Don't have grandkids so no comment on that and for the 1500 extra lbs it depends on what you can tow. I think the closer you get to your max weight the less enjoyable the tow is.
