Check your payload sticker to see what you have to deal with. That will tell what you might want to tow.

We had a 2004 F150 and added a controller with no problem but the truck was not set up for heavier TT's. But it did fine for the smaller TT we had at the time.

You can get an after market brake controller, that should be a plug play, with a connection under the dash. A connecting wire harness used to come in the glove box of a new truck, that fits the under dash plug-in. Not sure, but may also be possible to get a Ford IBC installed.
