My $32,000 ink pen - photo

Here's a photo of the ink pen that just cost me $32,000:

Well .... actually, the dealer gave us the ink pen when we signed for our new 2013 Outback model 298RE from Walnut Ridge RV sales, New Castle, Indiana! The actual trailer was not that much, but we were able to roll the loan from our Springdale into this one. The over-all payment is just a few dollars more than the Springdale loan because the new interest rate is substantially lower! Great deal! sooooo....

We just got the call back that our "loan" was approved and we take delivery this Wednesday! I just wanted to share with everyone!

Now, the first thing everyone is going to say is, "Hey Dutch ... aren't you being a little hypocritical there ... aren't YOU the one who said they didn't want slides! ... so what you doing getting a camper with 3 slides now!" ....

What can I say ... I'm speechless and guilty as charged! OK, having a camper with NO slides was nice and I never had to EVER worry about mechanical failure. So ... maybe those "safe and secure" days are over! One thing is certain ... as every one on these forums as stated over and over ... it sure does add room! Which is what we needed, feeling rather crammed up after 8 years in the Springdale. I guess it's time to be able to "spread out" now.

About our decisions to go with this specific camper opposed to something else. We considered 5er's (seriously) and Toy Haulers (seriously) and Motor homes (vaguely) - which was ruled out pretty fast (not for financial reasons, just for the convenience of have the tow vehicle to run around in without breaking camp).

5er: we do not want to sacrifice the bed of the truck or the shell or the ability to comfortable carry our canoe.

Toy Hauler: When we "seriously" considered toy haulers, we just never found one in a price range we felt comfortable enough that had the "style" we were looking for.

Bunkhouse.... oh we SERIOUSLY considered a bunkhouse, and it was a front bunkhouse model that took us to Walnut Ridge RV in the first place. They were the only one that had the one we (really) wanted. Reason for bunk-house --- 4 beds for lots of storage and for the grand kids when they go camping with us. The second choice was a floor plan similar to the one we got, but another Outback. The dealer pointed us to this one, and ... although a little higher in price than the original (2nd choice), we immediately "knew" this one was it! Oh well, let the grand kids sleep on the floor! The oldest is 4, and will still sleep with us anyway!

So, we're excited! We've tried for the last 3 years to purchase a new trailer, but we've always been upside down. This time .... all the stars and planets were aligned perfectly! We're very excited. On top of that, we had previously scheduled a week-end at Charlestown State Park (Indiana) over labor day weekend. Looks like we'll be taking the new camper on it's maiden voyage then!
