Hey neighbor, no matter what the make of the rig, all have Achille's heels. Oil cooler clogged on mine and took out the EGR cooler. I used that repair opportunity to upgrade everything. The Beast is back to normal and runs like a raped ape.
Of course it it up to you if you buy it, if the previous owner has already replaced the oil cooler and EGR, and added a ScanGauge II or other gauge set, and replaced the TTY head bolts with head STUDS like it should have came with in the first place, your chances for catastrophic failure are much reduced. The TorqueShift automatic that comes with these trucks is every bit the equal to the Allison transmission, the interior legroom and seating is more comfortable in the Ford, and I had no qualms at all about putting the money in to fix what broke and eliminate the parts that were prone to failure.
