Yes-Had me concerned when when they first started doing this but I have never had an issue.

I agree with you Girt Dog, the dealer is pulling a fast one. However my dealer spent a good hour trying to get the DTRL activated in my Ram. They ended up having to call in the Service Engineer and it took him calling Ram Trucks to finally get the sales code sent to my truck!

Now would you work for four hours without getting paid? My dealer did, after it was said and done not only did they not charge me but they gave me a 2016 200S to drive for the day!

OP find a different dealer and ask them to contact either there service rep or Ram trucks if they can't find the sales code using your VIN number. Seems the trucks that are having the issues with finding the code (LM5) are the ones with the projector lamps and LED parking lamps. These are the Sport, and all Laramie and higher trim levels.

As for charging for this if the code is in the BCM it should only take 15 to 30 minutes to reprogram the truck. But most service shops even non dealers have a one hour minimum charge at their hourly rate. No one wants to work for free, right Dodgeguy?

If it was law, I'd be inclined to think all vehicles old would have drls activated.
As far as the dealer bs goes, they're making out at 1/2 hour. Simple re program stuff like this doesn't take long. I've reprogrammed a bunch of Ram truck parameters including drls with dealer Witech software. I'd spend maybe 1/2 hour per truck with a standalone setup out in the middle of the Arctic with shatty wifi service.
Including drls. We were required to drive with headlights on all the time in the oilfield, so I turned on all drls on the fleet. I'm not a Ram tech or even a mechanic.
Thank your dealer for trying to rip you off.

Should only take 10 minutes once the sales code is imputed. Some trucks have the code in the system others (like mine) require it be inputted from Ram. You need to find a different dealer IMO.

dealer said yheu have to contact Dodge. then it has to be updated at the dealership. then I take my truck n and they change the computer. he said it would take about 2 hrs at 135/hr.

biggest thing I've noticed about DRL is the number of vehicles running with 1 headlight burned out...

The DRL's didn't cause the serious hazard, its stupid drivers who are oblivious that cause the hazard.

Nah, that part wasn't directed at you. Some were pointing out that doing such a thing was illegal, specifically in CA. They seem to be part of the rare few with such a law on the books.

Exactly, good post. The above is all too common. But be careful speaking such sense, you'll have the hard of reading Mich800 and soren calling you names. People are wound up tighter than a Peterbilt's springs around these parts. :)
