We just completed a 4500 mile drive mostly following I-90 west from WI to WA and US-2 east from WA to MN. I saw more Rams on the road than in the past and less GM's, but SRW's were led by GM and Ford. In ND, just about every DRW had a flat bed instead of pickup bed regardless of make but most Class 3 DRW's being Rams. The count of chassis cabs are still dominated by Ford regardless of the pictures you see posted in section of the forum (I had to look long for another chassis cab Ram and many people came up to me asking about mine).
What disturbed me more was once you got out to areas where emission checks were done, the number of loud and smoking diesels noticeably increased. I'm not sure what to make of this observation other than it was very apparent which trucks were deleted. Do people buy them cheap from somewhere where else they no longer pass local regulation? Is it accepted practice in these parts to just do this to what should be a clean and quiet late model CTD, DA or PSD? Is this where diesel trucks get a second chance on life after experiencing costly repairs by their previous owners?
BTW: I set cruise for 60 mph most of the way and never felt like I was going to get run down or off the road. We sat back and enjoyed the view as we got by the same people multiple times who either had a small bladder or small fuel range...
