What disturbed me more was once you got out to areas where emission checks were done, the number of loud and smoking diesels noticeably increased. I'm not sure what to make of this observation other than it was very apparent which trucks were deleted. Do people buy them cheap from somewhere where else they no longer pass local regulation? Is it accepted practice in these parts to just do this to what should be a clean and quiet late model CTD, DA or PSD? Is this where diesel trucks get a second chance on life after experiencing costly repairs by their previous owners?
In the country folks learn at an early age how to make stuff run better, fix things, and make things last. Sure- it may smoke a little and run a little louder but it still works so why waste a bunch of money and buy a new one until this one is worn out...
What disturbs me is the hypocrites who complain about air quality and then have no problem sitting down to eat a steak or hamburger. Or the RV'r who has no problem pulling their trailer all over the West but then complains about the small rancher who's truck spits a little smoke when he heads into town...
