My quest for a newer dry bath camper

So I spoke to the dealer about the Lance 1030 from my post here: https://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/27878786.cfm I was interested in and have decided not to drive the 4-5 hours to look at it. His service department tells him it is "not delamination" on the skirt and it's probably just some sort of "scrunched up" panel or "somthing"....

Lots of junk out there, but I did, however locally find a 2007 Lance Lite 1055 for $14.9k and went and looked at it. Could get it for $14k. I didn't realize they came in the lite version and the seller (original owner) really couldn't tell me why it was lighter, other than perhaps it was "a few inches shorter"? I believe the regular 1055 has a generator standard (this one did not have one, though pre-wired for it) so that may be one reason? Anyway, no solar either. Aluminum sides and TPO roof in good shape. When he opened the compartment doors 2 of them literally poured water from inside the doors and water was pooled in the compartment where the generator would be from the rain we had last week. Nice as it is I didn't have a good feeling about that so I passed. I'm not in a huge rush so the search continues, but I've pretty much narrowed it down to a 2006 or newer camper. Must have an all weather package, dry bath, extra counter space in the kitchen and since we are tall people 6' and 6' 7" respectively, high ceilings (my Weekender has a full 7' ceiling!)

Thanks for letting me ramble and for going along on this journey.
Cheers,
Dak

Dak I had the same issue with that generator door and pan. One the pan is just a tray with air gaps not a sealed compartment. I drilled some drain holes. the water issue with the doors was fixed by sealing where the filon skin met the metal door trim with dicor. 4 years in the rain in the Santa Cruz mountains and no other issues. Me I would go for it

Thanks Buzzcut... I'm still pondering. I may have waited to long though as the ads are no longer on line.. I did like it though, and will continue my quest for the 1055 if I don't end up with a slide. Time will tell! :)

Dak, (this is what I was told at the dealership)
I think as of 2008 models , Lance skirt coverings are hung in place , not glued.
The horizontal molding on the top portion of the skirt gets removed along with the trim molding around the bottom.
When I was having another unrelated repair made to my unit , the mechanic had a skirt all done in a very short time on some else's Lance. He told me that skirt panel just lifted out and a new one went into place, no glue , held in place with the trim.
It did look like delamination to me and it felt soft. But I was fooled , there was no glue to delaminate.

Thanks Bob, but this Lance 1030 was a 2003, not 2008... I did call the dealer and pass on it. ..

Or "something"....its "scrunched" up because there is water damage inside the skirt. It amazes me what dealers will tell folks.
  • Thanks folks! I won't get discouraged and am fortunate that I already have a perfectly fine camper I can use in the meantime! The next one may very well be my last to take me into retirement next year, so I'll be pretty picky! My search does and will continue to be in the southwest also... as well as the pacific northwest, or anywhere I could drive in a day or so.

    Thanks again!

    Cheers!

  • Good luck, but taking your time will bear out well. You might want to check out dealers and private sellers in the dry southwest. We've got a Lance 1181 that we ordered out new, and have loved it ever since we got it. Kept in the garage except when being used (no not selling), my point is I think you can find something that has been well cared for.
  • Good luck in your search, and don't get discouraged at all the JUNK some people think, is Gold. When we went from our "C" to a TC I probably logged 2K miles over two years. Eventually found a unit where all the numbers worked, and we were happy to have joined your TC world. TC's rock.
