Are the tall tires acting like marshmallows and just to tall of sidewalls to be stable? Just my guess
This.
Big tires, big lifts and all that other related junk leads to a bad towing or hauling experience.
I would bet that if your truck were closer to stock it would tow perfectly.
Understood.
Here's the details:
Stock height truck I've ran: 1) BFG ATs 315/75/17s D Range, then 2) Toyo Open Country AT 33x12.5x17 10 ply E Range, and back to The BFGs. The BFGs have the Dame ratings as the Toyos. It was time to change tires so I tried the Toyos and they were awful! I went on two trips with them and they were unbearable. So I went back to the BFGs. They are on hummer wheels that were made for this tire (stock set up on a hummer). I did that because I had bought the truck with the stock wheels and those same tires on the truck, which was not a preferred combo. I'm on my third set of BFGs.
I have wondered about this as an issue, and should and this on the list. I have a friend with my old wheels and smaller tires.
So when I get home:
1) weigh truck and trailer
2) weigh tongue
3) try different tires
4) my wife says sell and get a 5er as I write... (I still don't know where she's getting all this money)
Tell me more, I need more.
Thanks,
Joe Zeppe
