I solved some trailer sway I was having with my 'much smaller truck-trailer combo' with adding better shocks on the trailer. The original shocks were also installed at a hugh angle (looked like more than 45 degrees). I re-welded a plate to the trailer frame to make the installed shock angle much smaller. My OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer weight loaded is around 4200lbs and only has one axle. I do not have any WDH or anti-sway hitch add-on..
My original 2004 truck with this same 2008 OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer had 10-ply tires on it... My newer 2010 F150 still has the original stock tires on it but has something on the dash called sway control. Seems to tow my 4200LB POPUP just great...
I realize we are comparing apples and oranges here - just passing on what I did to solve my somewhat trailer sway problem with my OFF-ROAD POPUP.
A great place to test all of this is to makes some runs on I59 between Fort Payne AL and Gadsden AL where the Interstate concrete slabs are all buckled. Most of the 18-wheeler traffic uses the shoulder here. Don't know if all of this has been fixed yet or not. My poor POPUP trailer would come off-the-ground at speeds above 40MPH... geesssh I had to adjust my air conditioner hold down bolts after ever trip.
