You will need to get a shank that accommodates the height. You do what the trailer as level as possible.
He can use his Dad's shank if it is the same WD brand/style..
Better yet, try NOT using WD with his Dad's truck for a quick drive around the block so to speak (provided his Dad's truck is up to the weight challenge).
But I suspect the the OPs issue is his truck is LIFTED since he has 35" tires AND his Dad's truck is 5 inches LOWER.. I am kind of shocked that no one on this forum has noticed this..
I suspect that his Dad's truck will be much more stable towing since it is 5 inches lower and therefore the problem is most likely the OPs truck with lift and oversized tires.
Pretty well known that lifted vehicles with oversized tires tend to not make for as good of a towing rig.. This is where "Boulevard Queens" are more for looks.. Rather than heavy work..
I have towed exclusively with non lifted trucks with stock size tires and have yet found any of the trailers misbehave.. I have even towed my flatbed trailer with some very unbalanced loads with NO WD or sway control and never once experienced any bad behavior from the trailer..
Tow that trailer with a non lifted non modified truck with correctly sized tires and I think you will notice a huge difference in how your trailer tows..
