I know when I installed my Timbrens on the unloaded truck as the instructions called for, it stated the Timbrens should have x amount of clearance and not touch the axle.
The camper was off the truck, I had roughly 2 inches of clearance between the bottom of the Timbren and the top of the axle prior to putting the camper on.
