Mysterious Running Motor Sound in Jayfeather?

In answer to your question about the size of the accumulator, I suppose it depends on the amount of water you use, the room under the seat, and your budget. My accumulator is the smallest they make, for all three reasons! It is a cylinder smaller than a football -- I think it cost around $50. Huge improvement -- now, when I flush the toilet in the middle of the night, my poor wife is not jolted awake by the sound of a machine gun under her head. (Instead, she is jolted awake when I have to crawl over her to get back into bed because there is no other way to get into bed.)

Something strange going on.......and here is why.

You are connected to water supply via a hose.......yet water pump is cycling On/OFF. The pressure switch in water pump is sensing a drop in pressure and turns pump On until pressure switch opens. That would suggest a small leak.......BUT you are connected to city water source.

If pump internal check valve was leaking the city water would overfill fresh water tank
If you have a dripping faucet, dripping toilet, dripping low point drain valves, dripping fittings....a leak it will continue to leak with pump off (city water still ON....pump OFF so pump doesn't cycle) but leak is still being fed from city water.

OR you don't have a 'leak' but the screen is clogging at city water connection causing lower pressure so pump ran.

How is the water pressure without pump ON? Notice any decrease since turning pump OFF?

IF pressure all good (inlet screen not clogging) then you have a leak.
Lay paper towels down under sinks, toilet water valve....around any plumbing fittings you can get to. Small drips are hard to find..will show up on paper towels. Check under trailer for any wet spots on ground.

Last possibility I can think of......pump pressure switch set to low/sensitive.

If it was the water pump... there is probably a leak in the system or a drain open somewhere (low point or something else). Water pumps do not run continuously.

profdant139, can you elaborate on this? We took our new TT on her maiden voyage last weekend that that was my only complaint, the water pump was SO loud...

Edit: I googled it but there are products ranging from $35 to $668, don't know where to start!

If the pump is sucking air, as in hooked to city water with empty fresh tank, it will not typically make much noise.

It's either the water pump or converter fan.

Pumps especially cheap ones can have internal leaks. I have two scenarios in my Fuzion that will allow enough internal leakage within the system that the pump will just barely run 5 seconds every few minutes. One such scenario is caused by a check valve that needs to have zero pressure on the back side or it will leak a little back into the fresh water tank. If you can't fine a visible leak anywhere, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

If the pump was cycling with any frequency, there is probably a leak someplace. Ours doesn't cycle any more often then every few hours (I think it's a back-leak in the pump itself)

You'll find that when camping without hookups, that loud pump will be annoying. Shurflo makes a small accumulator, easy to install, that makes the pump much quieter (and it runs for a shorter time, too).
