It's possible you're hearing a cooling fan kick on and off from your convertor.
Try turning on several lights at once. If you hear the fan kick on, go around and turn them all off. If the fan stops coincidental to turning off one light, turn it back on again to see if the fan starts up again.
This is unlikely since as you described the noise as shaking your dinette around. Cooling fans make a little noise, but unless the fan bearings are really dirty or extremely worn they really aren't that bad.
