Are there rv parks near the falls or close to that area. State park?? Never been there, wifey been on my case to go. I am trying to plan this out for an early birthday present.
I have also stayed at Branches of Niagara. Great place, nice site and lots of stuff for the kids to do. They have 2 zip lines. One for kids and another for the older folks that is awesome. Only drawback is the price.
There is Branches of Niagara and a KOA on Grand Island which is about a 10-15 minute thruway/expressway ride to the Falls. There is also a KOA in Lewiston and the Four Mile Creek State Park nearby in Youngstown, those are 20-30 minutes away from the Falls. If you make it here I suggest you try Duffs for wings, they are better than the Anchor bar, also the french fries with gravy are fantastic. Being a WNY native we take for granted one of the beautiful things in we have in our own backyard, I'm thrilled to see all who have traveled here. Safe travels, Chris
For 20 or 25$ you can get a ID same as your passport. You are supposed to slide it through a reader and go. "Good Luck With That!!" My wife has one and they interrogate her anytime she comes back to the US even from CN. Guess they figure she has curly hair and could hide lots of big stuff in it maybe.
We stayed at the branches at niagara this past summer. Nice campground, big sites and nice people. Niagara is definitely worth the trip. We traveled from tampa with 2 young kids and would do it again. Even my 7 year old was amazed by the falls. Pictures or videos don't do it justice. If you just want to see the falls, there is no reason to go to the Canadian side, you can see it just fine from the boats and tours.
We also stayed at Four Mile Creek. Fairly nice campground and price was right, but the road to and from NF was in terrible condition. Also, the mosquitos can be relentless during the summer months. They can quite literally eat you alive. Our site was right next to the water, so maybe a site away from the water wouldn't be as bad.
We visited this spring and loved it! We just ignored all of the high rise buildings and t shirt stores. We took the Maid of the Mist ride and it was very exciting, and we did get very wet. We stayed at an rv park on 62, the AA Royal Motel and Campground. Ok for a one or 2 night stay. Its on the American side, very close to the falls.
We stayed at Four Mile creek several years ago. Beautiful state park, sitting on Lake Ontario with skyline views of Toronto. About a 15 minute drive to the falls. This was the site we stayed on. Google earth has street views of the entire campground making it easy to pick a good spot.
Well worth the trip. we stayed at the Jellystone in Canada. they also offer a shuttle service that drops you off and picks you up at the Falls. and yes the Canada side is very nice!
We went a few years ago and stayed at the KOA on Lundy's Lane on the Canadian side. I was very happy with the campground. It is a couple miles up the road from the falls, but there is a city bus service that stops right at the campground entrance and runs constantly - seemed very inexpensive to me.
As another poster said, Niagara Falls is a lot like Vegas - or as I thought, kind of a twisted Disney World. All those pictures you see of the falls are from one angle only.
If you can arrange it, eat at the Skylon Tower! We had three families, ate at the the buffet section, put a dent in their profits, and the food was really good. Restaurant overlooks the falls, and you can go up to the outdoor viewing area after you eat.
Maid of the Mist is pretty cool, worth doing, but quick.
There is a ton of stuff to do and see. I took my son and his friend to see the power generating station a few miles up from the falls. Very cool, go down in an elevator like 27 stories to see the generating section. I found it very interesting to learn that they moved the generating station away from the falls to actually get more power.
Niagara Falls is a tourist trap, but is a lot of fun and worth seeing at least once.
