I've been going round and round on the internet trying to figure out which spindle nut socket fits my 2500HD rear axle. I want to buy one before I open the hubs up and I haven't been able to find specifically clear info on the tool. Probably a trade secret.Many forums/ads don't state exactly what vehicle a specific PN socket will fit, usually just a diameter. Others specify it will fit my vehicle and then will add something like "Front Axle","4WD", or "4 lug" or include a picture that I'm certain will not fit.I'm fairly certain it has 6 lugs. I've found SUNEX Tools who lists there part numbers by axle weight. I'm guessing I have a 7200 lb axle but I'm not sure.Summit has an online tool finder but it points to a tool Sunex says is for an 11000 lb axle. Don't think that's on my 2500.Anyone have any insight on this tool?

They can look up your truck and tell you what you need. And if they're wrong, you take the tool back and they will loan you the right one.

I try to keep my mouth shut but your safety is at stake here. If you don't know how many lug nuts your truck has I doubt that you have the equipment needed to safely support the vehicle while your legs may be under it.

Hey Bucky-he is talking about taking the front axle assembly apart to do repairs, not how to change a tire. I am pretty sure he knows how many lug nuts his truck has.

Spindle and spindle nut is a whole other ball game from lug nuts. I have a '96 Dodge 1 ton dually with less that 25,000 original miles yet last year I had to "HUNT" down a junkyard spindle to replace my front driver side spindle and I mean HUNT. Amazing how parts become unavailable sometimes from part stores. Oh and a bad spindle on a front axle is a BAD/white knuckle ride. A mere test drive resulted in axle debris in the street....glad I found a replacement part!

Read his post again. He states that it is the rear axle and that he is not sure how many lugs nuts the truck has. BTW the tire has to come off no matter which end he's working on.

It is (as stated by the OP) the rear axle under a 2500HD. I'm fairly certain that it has 8 lugs.
If he doesn't know that, I wonder if he has the expertise to properly clean, lubricate, and adjust the bearings.
