What axle ratio? 5.3L plus 3.42 or 3.73 should be fine for a 19' single axle TT. Maybe you just need to pay that mechanic to install an upgraded trans cooler.
But if you really want to change tow vehicles, get a 2007.5+ GM 3/4 ton 6.0L/6-spd. You'll probably get the same fuel economy or better towing as you do now with a lot more power and handling while towing.
