Is the intent of the chip to just change the transmission shift points or improve engine performance?
Improving engine performance would do more harm than good to the transmission. You will be applying more torque to what is already the weakest link. Furthermore, setting it up improperly would lessen the longevity of both.
Have you towed this TT enough to know you have a problem that requires addressing?
My advice is stop losing sleep over this and go enjoy your new toy. It's good to be proactive but I don't believe a problem exists. Start with the temp monitor so you can see where you are with the transmission. Come back and report your findings and we can go from there.
Regearing is usually the first step in improving your TVs towing performance. It should not cost $2000 for a $250 part, some gear oil and 2 hours of labor.
