Is the intent of the chip to just change the transmission shift points or improve engine performance?
Improving engine performance would do more harm than good to the transmission. You will be applying more torque to what is already the weakest link. Furthermore, setting it up improperly would lessen the longevity of both.
Have you towed this TT enough to know you have a problem that requires addressing?
My advice is stop losing sleep over this and go enjoy your new toy. It's good to be proactive but I don't believe a problem exists. Start with the temp monitor so you can see where you are with the transmission. Come back and report your findings and we can go from there.
Regearing is usually the first step in improving your TTs towing performance. It should not cost $2000 for a $250 part, some gear oil and 2 hours of labor.
Not losing any sleep. This is just who I am. I do tons of research about every aspect of any venture I engage in. Plus I just don't trust Modern vehicles that much. The best truck I have owned was a Frankenstein truck that was made up of parts of different manufacturers and years. It had a 1971 Ford F100 cab and chassis, a 4 cylinder Perkins diesel trackor motor, a 4 speed stick from I don't know what manufacturer (I think GM), and a dully rear end off a European Model 1 ton Flatbed truck (either Agryle or Mercedes). Drove it for 6 years in the Amazon over tens of thousands of miles of roads that would make a goat trail look like an interstate highway and it never failed me once. Gave it to a friend in 2007 when I came back to the US and he still has it today. He has put untold tens of thousands of miles driving all over the Amazon and he would not sell it for a million dollars. Now that is a truck I know I can depend on.
Here is my truck, nicknamed, "The Blue Ox"
The Blue OX on a normal day just going to town to do some shopping.
