Need advice on new TT

We are looking to down size from a 5th wheel to small TT. We would like a 24ft or smaller. We found one called Rockwood but when we looked at reviews it said stay away from any Forest River product. We would like a high end trailer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  • I've owned a Jayco, and liked it. We own a Keystone Sprinter, and I don't think I'd buy another Thor/Keystone product, you get what you pay for. I'm also looking at some smaller options. Arctic Fox and Lance seem to get good reviews, that's where I'm looking next. If Jayco had a floorplan/features I wanted, I'd buy another one.
  • Absolutely nothing wrong with the Rockwood Brand or their sister brand "Flagstaff". Some say the Flagstaff offers nicer finishes. If you want to just spend more you can with other brands with long pedigrees. The Artic Fox or Nash brands also make good TT's.
  • Just because you sell more of something doesn't mean much. Sell something cheap enough and you will sell a lot.

If you hang out on the Airstream forums you will read plenty of things go wrong. No hush hush. But 70% of all Airstreams made since the 1930's are still in operation. That says something about the brand.

I agree there is always someone having something negative to say about a particular brand. If you read enough of the comments, you can establish a pattern. All RVs have problems. They are made by human beings, and as such, are imperfect. But some have more problems than others. And some last a LOT longer than others.

As the saying goes, "you get what you pay for".
  • There's nothing wrong with Forest River, or any brand for that matter. Depending upon who posted the negative comment, more than likely, they don't even own a Forest River, they are parroting someone else. For every 1 negative poster, there are hundreds of very happy and satisfied owners that never say a word. And, it doesn't matter what brand of trailer you're considering, you're going to find negative reviews... on all of them!

I still think people who post the negative reviews are simply parroting someone they know, or are disillusioned what RV ownership entails. They have myths about RV that simply are not true. Like... they should be built like a house, never have issues or problems, they are ready to go and solidly built like an automobile, and dealerships should jump through hoops when you have a mechanical failure or a warranty issue. Not true for any brand! They all have their problems, they all have bad dealerships, they all have mechanical failures, they all have warranty issues, they all have a lemon that past the cracks. It's just some you hear about more than others.

Also, consider the quantity of RV that are sold compared to the number of complaints.

You don't hear much about Airstream because not that many people buy Airstreams. Airstream owners are kind of like a secret society.... they seem to keep everything "hush-hush" even when things go bad.

On the other hand, Keystone or Forest River outsells Airstream by mega-fold. So if you have a million people buying them, you have a million chances of hearing about complaints. Airstream may sell 50. What are the odds of bumping into a bad review ... if you can find one at all.

Lots and lots and lots people are satisfied with Forest River. You might want to reconsider.
