Need advice on what TT please

The wife and I have spent all weekend looking for what travel trailer we want to pick up. We started with the aspen trails, however they just looked to big and heavy for what we want to do. The kodiaks ultra lights at the same dealer caught our eyes, but they didn't have any models big enough for our family. Next we looked at a hideout, it was beautiful and had everything we wanted and more, but it was 7000 pounds. Then my personal favorite the KZ connect 28 bunk house, however my wife didn't like the 33' 6100 pounds for our 2012 suburban. Looked at the Bullets, I didn't like the styling, then the sunset trails, just wasn't haven it again. Finally on the way home we seen a passport ultra light grand touring 2670 bunkhouse at 5300lbs, with everything we need for $22000. We loved the exti. and the interior was nice too, kodiaks and connects were more modern though. The fact that it's 5200 pounds just sound pleasing, we usual pack heavy and drive 5-6 hours away. I know giving up weight may mean cheaper parts and a higher price tag, but a stress free tow is nice on the long hauls.
Anyone have anything to say about the Passport ultra lights? Good or bad?

    If you consider my Winnie an ultra light at 3,740 dry and 5,100 wet/loaded, no complaints. But we camp with two. More space means more weight. What are the numbers on the 2012 Suburban?

    8000 pounds towing, but we are towing a 5000 pound AmeriLite with about 600 pounds of gear. Let me tell ya anything over 65 mph is scary! Real soft suspension, did the air bags, hope it helps! I'm just curious if anyone knows if a passport TT is a good buy. Almost every RV I looked up has a few bad ratings, makes you wonder!

    Pretty nice units, bunkhouses are around 6500lbs though

    Do you have a sway control device? If not, buy one! Are your tires at max psi? If so, consider going to a lower profile tire with highest possible load rating... you want a stiff, not too tall sidewall. Make sure hitch weight is 10-14% of total trailer weight. And for God's sake, slow down! No way should you drive such a rig much faster than 60 mph.

    The DW and I did not know what we wanted so we took our best guess and rented a similar sized and weight TT for 10 days in the Ozarks.

    After that we had a far better understanding of what we needed, including a bigger truck.

    It is always better to try before you spend the big bucks, if you can.

    You can always look at Lance Travel Trailers, very well made and built to last. 4,380 dry weight and 21'2" in length.

    What I look for in a TT now before anything is the size of the fresh water holding tank. They are making them smaller to get under weight limits and you pay the price hauling water and pouring it down that little hole in the side. The RV's with large holding tanks are StarCraft Autumn Ridge and some Jayco Jay
    Flights. The rest don't brag about this change and you get the surprise first
    time out when the toilet won't flush. Thank gov regulations for this. It is a real kick in the pants buying the RV and finding this out, you can bet the salesmen would never reveal this. The cure is to stay at parks that have full
    hookup but that gets expensive.

    The advise on water capacity is a good point but what is important is determined by the individual and their camping style.

    We have found our water and holding tanks last us a week or so. Since we rarely spend more than a 3 or 4 days in one place before we dump and refill, water capacity is rarely an issue.

    Owning a TT is a three legged stool. Floor plan, tow vehicle and cost all have to be correct.

    Floor plan includes the various TT amenities, a tow vehicle's max cargo is often the limiting factor rather than towing capacity and cost should not be onerous.

    Also buying an RV is not a race, take the time to sleep on the information. Things often look different in the morning.
