Look for a trailer that weighs 5500 lb empty and you will find enough stuff to put 1000 lb in it. Water, food, toys, books, clothes and drinks. It's very surprising. A Reese Camover Weight distribution hitch is the one you can buy, there are others but it is just a tough, inexpensive hitch and will keep you from veering when a truck passes, put the wight in the proper places and outlast you. Never heard of one wearing out. Our friends have a Keystone Bunkhouse but it's a handful for a 1/2 ton. I'd go to a dealer, ask to hook on a used trailer within your weight rating and go to a truck scale and weigh all the axles and get the gross wt also. Go to a truckstop and weigh your truck, full of fuel and people. Give you an idea of how much more you can load on.
