Need new rear axle and differential 2500HD GMC***UPDATE***

Have a 2017 GMC 2500 Denali HD Gas. Noticed some axle fluid on the rear inside passenger wheel. Thought I had a bad seal. Took it in for repair and they said "something let loose in there and you need a new rear axle and differential". Parts are ordered and they said they will have the truck for a few days to a week to fix. Truck has 10,500 miles on it. I'm guessing factory defect or something? Makes me feel uneasy about having major repair work done to the vehicle that I barely owned one year. Can I expect this to be "good as new" when it's done? I certainly will be watching it close, especially once the warranty gets close to expiring.
  • If you do not have the limited slip differential already now is the time to get one put in.
  • "Can I expect this to be good as new when it's done"
Presuming you took it into the dealer, the parts should be OEM, warranted for the original 60,000 miles, and good as new. The labor, well that's a coin toss.
