Need some advice on Shasta 2009 Airflyte 12

Hello there,

My wife and I are seriously considering buying a Shasta 2009 Airflyte 12 (going to look at it tomorrow). We've never had any kind of RV or travel trailer before, so our knowledge is very limited.

We see that it's 100% electric, and we believe that we will be doing some boondocking. Our major concern is the air conditioning, specifically the ability to run the AC on a separate generator. The guy that we might buy from sounds very honest, and he said that when he's boondocked, he's always gone in the winter and not had the need for AC. He says that he used a generator for all the other electrical needs, and that if we were to get a second generator, that should run the AC just fine.

Does anyone have experience with this? If so, we'd love to hear from you about this or any other advice you may have about Shasta 2009 Airflyte 12s.

Thanks!

Chris
  • Don't know about a second generator, I would probably be looking to get one generator that was rated to run my entire TT including the AC.....
  • The AC on a small trailer will usually run on Yahama's EF2400 generator. You may have to turn off the AC while making coffee, drying hair, using a microwave, etc. No need for a second generator. Where are you thinking of boondocking in Texas? There is very little National Forest, BLM in this very large state.
  • With a all electric trailer I would at least get a 4000 watt generator. Water heater, frig, microwave, A/C or heater are all electric. MIght be a poor choice to boondock.

Most trailers that have propane can run the water heater, frig, heater, stove on gas. With a all electric that is not a option.
