It will get the job done. If it's in your price range and coupled with HD truck, I would say that's better than going with the 1/2 ton with the same engine. It won't be the quickest but tons of guys tow with the 5.7. Michigan isn't very hilly so you don't have to worry about steep inclines. I personally went from a Tundra 5.7 to the cummins 6.7 and I can say there it is night and day difference. I personally would go with the 6.4 for the extra power but it's not my money.
Keep in mind the 3500s are ALMOST the same price. They are usually only a couple hundred bucks more for the same exact options. Sometimes you can find a great deal on a 3500 making it a better choice.
