Need tips and experiences for first time winter camping.

Being in California our version of "winter camping" is probably very much closer to many of the Northern States "summer camping". Many situations here I've not even thought about before so I'm appreciative of those that have shared their wisdom and experiences. Lot's to consider for future trips should I end up North in the winter months.
