Besides the Handicap plates being generic to truck or car, so is the personalized vanity plates. It's not a Alpha/Numeric sequence that can be easily identified as commercial or not. I have considered vanity plates on my California truck and opting to declare it permanent RV status just to save a few bucks. But vanity plates have their own fees and charges so not likely to save all that much.
Mine is a 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 short bed 2500. Meaning it's 15 years old. Most recent annual fees for registration was on 04/27/21 and I paid $398. Figure that was the lowest price since new, I've paid at least $6,000 in DMV registration fees. The truck has 82,000 miles on it. Over 7 cents a mile for the privilage to drive on California roads. That doesn't include fuel taxes either!
