Nerf bars that will not rust

I've always used either SS or polished aluminum tube steps. I live around gravel roads and on chipped roads and they all get dings but what the heck.
The wife's '16 chevy truck has the factory oval tube steps that I really like their looks and style. I have no idea what material their made off but the dealer says their aluminum.
I've always called them "steps" or "step bars" also. I've heard "nerf bars" used for the steps, extra bars on bumpers, rollover bars, etc. Seems to be a generic term sometimes.
