A 4.10 and 3.42 will get the exact mileage towing. Getting up to speed possible a bit faster with the 4.10 but when towing how much of that scenario is used.
On the exact same route NW WA to SoCal and back several seasons my 3.42's towing a combined 29K hand calc mileage was 9.5 AVERAGE. Same exact route with my current 4.10's towing 33K combined average is 9.0.
I kept track of the speeds on certain grades with the last truck and it actually out pulled this combo. Yes 4K more weight now but my hp and tq are higher on current. So basically bottom line the 3.42's will perform VERY well. Simply look at the towing SAE compliant chart I posted.
