I have to agree with Fish to a degree. IDK that I would go as far to say up to 29k with 3.42's. They have no problem getting started with the Aisin and have no problem running down the road but there is that in between that is not ideal and that is 2nd-3rd with immediate TC lock up. Up to 21-22k maybe but the 3.73's would be better for my 29k.
Yes, I have towed with all three (3.42 , 3.73 , 4.10) behind the Aisin.
I tow at 24,500 combined with 3.42's and Aisin, there is no shift issues. Remember that in 5th gear the 3.42's final gear ratio is the same as 4.10 in 6th. Any gain in towing with the lower diff, is offset by the .63 6th final gear ratio(2.583) verses the .77 5th final gear ratio(2.6334) for the 3.42. The slightly shorter tires on the duallies makes the final gear ratio almost identical. And the 3.42 give one a freeway cruising gear when not towing.
BTW the last RAM Fish owned was a 2006 or so.
First off, I doubt Fish has ever owned a Ram. His dad's bothers uncles cousin yes but not him.
Second, the 3.73's would give the trans a tad closed gear spacing. I have zero problems with the truck running in fifth or sixth and have zero problems getting took off from a start. 75% of the times I have zero problems at all but the other 25% getting through the 2nd with TC locked to 3rd can get my blood boiling.
Third, I stand corrected. 3.42's must be good up to 24.5k but not 29k.
