Wow people, it's over. The decision was made, and then made again. It’s not completely uninformed. I have been towing with 3.42 gearing for several years. I understand that not everyone agrees, and I don't care.
You see some of these guys think the only right choice is what they have come to believe is correct.
you can't go wrong with 3.73 :)
You can tow up to about @ 25,000 lbs. with the 3.73...@ 4,500 lbs. higher rating than the 3.42 this is for the DRW CC long bed.
I'm sure someone will come along and parse my statement.
In the end it boils down to more the speed you want to tow at, and the OP would not answer that question. If a person wants to tow at 60-65 then the 4.10's in 6th and the 3.42's in 5th make good since. If one wants to two at 65-75 then 3.73's might be a good choose. But like I said the OP would not answer that question or missed it.
Towing at around 60 MPH like I do, if I hard 3.73's I would not have a good gear for that speed while towing heavy. I do not want to tow at 65+ in 6th gear to make the 3.73 work.
In a very lengthy post on the TDR site a hotshot guy with 3.73's refused to answer the speed question in his support for 3.73's. I believe it did not want to acknowledge that 3.73 had a larger impact of towing speeds than people realize.
Maybe the OP will now loop back and fill in the missing piece of info.
