2 years ago I went from a 1500 to a 2500HD. While I never had an issue with my 1500 carying my pop-up camper I wanted the option to get a heavier camper if one struck my fancy. For the most part I do not regret that decision. There is one hidden cost that I have never seen addressed here: registration fees. My truck registration more than doubled and I can only register a year at a time when I used to be able to do multi-year. In VT the 2500HD is no longer considered a 'light truck' even tho my scale weight is less than the DMV cut off point. They go on the manufacturers class weights and not on the individual truck weight.
