The tank is smaller on the short box what distance do you get between fills while towing.
It depends what I am towing. Towing my RV I get about 11 mpg, so 200 miles and I am looking for fuel. Towing heavy loads I get 5 - 6 mpg and fill at nearly every service station on route.
