I only run 1/2 tons because of expense, so I have always found trailers that match. I would agree with almost your entire post, however I have found that with any 1/2 ton with at least 1400 lbs of payload availability and a WDH the maximum loaded trailer should be 6000 lbs maximum.
This typically results in hitting the payload limit, rear axle limit, and having a decent amount of weight to pull with a gasser.
I have found that once exceeding 6000 lbs total trailer weight, most 1/2 tons simply will not work within the limits.
