It's not as easy as 1/2 or 3/4. You need to look at specific models and options. Some of the 1/2 tons get very close to the 3/4 tons when properly outfitted (from the factory). I can barely feel my 6,000 lb trailer with my f150 ecoboost with max tow, and it's so light on the tongue (no where near 13%...) that there is no squat at all. It's true that you have to work with the numbers the manufacturers give you (i.e. subtract payload from actual tow rating) but new trucks and features are not like the 1/2 tons of old. Integrated trailer brakes, new transmission features make it a breeze. I can lockout individual gears, which makes going downhill no problem at all. Depends on where you live too and what kind of terrain. I tow in mountains no problem. Small highways out to the Coast Range of California? Highway 49 through gold country? Easy peasy.
