Hi all -
I'm looking to buy a tow truck for a travel trailer with a 7532 lb GVWR and a hitch weight of 532 lb. Will a Ford F-150 work? Is four wheel drive a must, or will two wheel drive be OK? What other features are important? I'm just getting started and would appreciate any tips.
If you are looking to buy new, or fairly new, an F-150
with Max Tow and or the HD payload package will do very well, especially with the EcoBoost. I love my EcoBoost! No more winding up to 4500 RPM to pull a hill, just listen to the turbos hum. :) As others have stated, pay attention to the yellow payload sticker in the door jamb. Payload is generally the weak link on a half-ton truck.
Since you live in Pagosa (envious BTW), I would recommend 4X4. If you lived in Florida and only traveled in-state, probably not.
